LVDS to rpi

Wed Jun 15, 2016 8:01 pm

I've got this old laptop screen with an LVDS connecter. I thought it would be great if I could use it as a quick screen for my raspberry Pi. I was wondering what everyone thought was the best way to connect it. Can I get a LVDS to ribbon cable and connect it to the display slot in my Pi or is there maybe a way to make it into a hdmi monitor. I still have the computer it was attached to in case that could help.

You would need to see if you can find an LVDS to HDMI convertor board that is compatible with your display. There are various ones available on ebay.

It isn't practically possible to use the Display connector on the Pi as that is configured for the official display only.

How do I identify the type of converter I'd need? There is a sticker on the back of the screen one line on it says LVDS_CABLE(BIXBY1.1). I imagen that would have something to do with it. I'll have a look now.

You need the LCD Panel Part Number, a LVDS Board is around £30.00 and look like this:

Exactly this.

For an example I have a Samsung LT141X4-156 display (that's what it says on the label on the back) and it wasn't hard to find a driver board that supported it.
