X Session is not working

Tue Jun 14, 2016 12:27 am

I am unable to start an X Session on my laptop. These are the steps I followed:
1) Started the Xming server on my laptop running Windows 10
2) Logged in to Raspberry Pi through PuTTy using a LAN cable. The terminal starts
3) ran lxsession

The following messages are displayed:

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ lxsession
** Message: main.vala:99: Session is (null)
** Message: main.vala:100: DE is (null)
** Message: main.vala:104: No session set, fallback to LXDE session
** Message: main.vala:110: No desktop environnement set, fallback to LXDE
** Message: main.vala:131: log directory: /home/pi/.cache/lxsession/LXDE
** Message: main.vala:132: log path: /home/pi/.cache/lxsession/LXDE/run.log
when I check the log in another puTTY terminal, here is what I see:

Code: Select all

What are you using to SSH into the PI. Did you set the X forwarding on? If you did not pass the correct CLI argument you will receive the error you seen.

The pi has X Forwarding on by default, however you need to tell the ssh client that you plan on using X over ssh.

ssh -X <MACHINE>

However, I notice you war using XMing as well as PuTTY. Please note the configuration category called SSH, you will see a section for X11, place a Check Mark on Enable X11 forwarding.
You can run, but you will only die tired.

I do it every single time I connect using PuTTY. What do you think is the problem?

The error you are seeing reminded me of errors I see when I forget to start XMing, or where I don't provide the -X to ssh. outside of this I have no more advice for you.
