Auto Power On TV

Fri Jun 10, 2016 4:01 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie to all of this so I'm sorry if my question is super easy to answer....

I would like to know how I can get my Vizio TV to turn on automatically each time I power on my Raspberry Pi 3/Raspbian Jessie.

I tried the tvservice command but it blanks out the screen and the tv sees no input.
Is there any other command I can run to get this to work ?

THANKS

My TV does this automatically. Have you checked if your TV have a setting for this or maybe something related to the CEC protocol ? ( ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_ ... cs_Control )

what is your TV? (full model number)
my TV (an older sony) has as well that functionality to turn on the TV, when a HDMI device is turning on.
but on my tv's menu there is nothing written like CEC, it is only called HDMI Set-up.
Settings -> Set-Up -> HDMI Set-Up -> Auto TV on. so you have to look for something similar...
(possibly you first have to enable "Control HDMI On")
{ I only give negative feedback }

If you can't get it to work then how about going the other way around and powering your Pi from the TV USB.
Then, when. You turn on the atV the Pi will start up.

There are risks (underpowered USB, uncontrolled shutdown on TV power off) but you might be lucky - like I was with a Pi that I use only for playing media and is powered by my Sony TV USB port ... and has an orderly close down when the TV is switched off because the Pi sees the CEC DisplayOff and starts an orderly shutdown and the TV keeps the USB power on for about 5 minutes after it gets the Off command from the remote control.
