Pi 2, Model B, ARM, Ubuntu 16.04

Wed Jun 08, 2016 4:18 pm

Hi

I am new.

Have Ubuntu Mate 16.04 installed on a RPi 2 Model B ARM system.

Need to run a Windows app. Have done a lot of reading and testing.

Question 1. Can I run WINE on an ARM based Pi to run Windows apps?

Question 2. If yes, can someone please provide specific directions? Happy to start with a complete Ubuntu 16.04 fresh install.

Note tried PlayonLinux as well. It fails on lack of a WINE install.

Thanks in advance

No, Wine is just a layer to provide the Windows API, it doesn't translate i386 instructions to ARM.

I think some people seem to have had some luck using QEMU, however (there's a few forum posts mentioning it, but I haven't tried it myself), and I believe there's someone selling a product that does the emulation for you.

Note that it'll probably have to be a relatively simple application (ideally something that was written to run on Windows 95/98), or it'll likely run unusably slow.

To be honest you have bought the wrong SBC for Windows Support, you need a board with a x86 CPU.

Eltechs have the paid for Exagear which has differing reports as to it usefulness:
