Unable to surf on the net with my RPi router

Tue Jun 07, 2016 4:25 pm

Hello everyone!

I just finished my router with my Raspberry Pi, I am even able to join its network which says that there is plenty of connection available. Yet when I connect to this network, nothing is able to load. Can you help me debugging this problem?

You probably have to fill in a lot of information before anyone can begin to help, we are not psychic you know.

Yes! But which one? I'm using an Inspiron 15 3000series, I used http://raspberrypihq.com/how-to-turn-a- ... fi-router/ and here are my wireless info:

Code: Select all

Re: Unable to surf on the net with my RPi router

Are you trying to create a separate network or are you trying to extend your existing network. I see that the guide your following do the first thing, I just want to make sure that is what you are trying to do.

I also see that the guide is from 2014 which means that its made for Raspian Wheezy. If you are using an up to date version of Raspbian then you have Raspian Jessie.
There are significant changes to network setup. Among other things it is now recommended to use dhcpc.conf for network setup instead of /etc/network/interfaces.
There are multiple posts on this subject on the forum ( and elsewhere: http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/qu ... -static-ip )
I cant say that this is the exact reason for your problem.

You say that you can connect to the ssid that the Pi controls, can we get some details on that connection. ( ip-address, netmask, gateway, DNS )

Thank you for considering my question!
are you trying to create a separate network or are you trying to extend your existing network.
I want to transform my Raspberry Pi as an highly secured router to navigate anonymously wherever I would be thanks to Onion Pi. Therefore, I am not sure about creating a separate network or extending my existing one but I feel I am trying to create a separate network...

I understand what you said and am on my way to jump on the link.
Here is from File: /etc/network/interfaces

Code: Select all

# Include files from /etc/network/interfaces.d:
source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d

auto lo

iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp

allow-hotplug wlan0

iface wlan0 inet static
        address 192.168.10.1
        netmask 255.255.255.0
And here is from File: /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf :

Code: Select all

#added
subnet 192.168.10.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
        range 192.168.10.10 192.168.10.20;
        option broadcast-address 192.168.10.255;
        option routers 192.168.10.1;
        default-lease-time 600;
        max-lease-time 7200;
        option domain-name "local";
        option domain-name-servers 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4;
}
File: /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf

Code: Select all

# Basic configuration

interface=wlan0
ssid=Dumbledore
channel=1
#bridge=br0

# WPA and WPA2 configuration

macaddr_acl=0

auth_algs=1
ignore_broadcast_ssid=0
wpa=3
wpa_passphrase=**********
wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
wpa_pairwise=TKIP
rsn_pairwise=CCMP

# Hardware configuration

driver=rtl871xdrv
ieee80211n=1
hw_mode=g
device_name=RTL8192CU
manufacturer=Realtek

I carefully followed step by step http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/qu ... -static-ip. Yet, when connecting to the RPi router, I'm still not able to connect to Internet...
