Using LCD screen question

Tue Jun 07, 2016 3:04 pm

This is my first post. I have had my Raspberry Pi 3 for exactly two weeks. I have successfully installed NOOBS and all seems well on TV through HDMI.
With the RPI I was also given a 4" LCD for it, together with a software/driver CD.
My problem is, despite reading dozens of confusing Google entries, I cannot understand how to instal the driver to the Raspbian OS. The LCD lights up white but I am loathe to change too much on the SD for fear of corrupting it.
Really love the machine and hope someone can help me to get the LCD working .

Likely your software CD is not updated for the RPi 2 or 3.
What is the brand and model?
You need to contact the seller to see if there is an update.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

On the subject of corrupting the SD card - make a backup (for most OSes, the same imaging software used to make it can also copy it in reverse back to an image on a PC hard drive) , and go experiment to your heart's content. That's how we learn :)

Thank you for your replies.
I still have not been able to use the LCD TouchScreen.
I have tried a number of image files - but without exception they have all failed to boot.
I've also tried uncompressing the various tar files which, although they create the LCD-show folder and files it still fails during the bootup. The last line reads 'end Kernel panic not syncing VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block (179,2)'
I don't know if the problem is with the software, the disk format or the LCD itself. I am running out of things to try.
Can anyone help or suggest things I might try?
Thanks
