Transmission trash data from NAS Synology

Tue Jun 07, 2016 9:44 am

Hello. My first post here. Sorry for my language. I have annoying problem here. I installed transmission on my RPI 2, mounted usb drive to it. Downloaded torrents first go to usb disk and then when finished are moved to mounted Synology NAS drive. Everything works great but one thing. I can trash data from transmission WEB GUI only from connected USB drive but not from Synology NAS drive. I can rename files on Synology using Transmission WEB GUI but cant delete them. I can remove files drom Synology using rm command from raspberry via SSh Putty. I set NFS share in synology via its WEB GUI but it doesn't help. It looks like a small problem and I can live without it but when it works as I want I will say my system works perfect. Any help will be a appreciated. Thank You.

If you cannot remove the files via some access method, there must be a reason; usually a system message, permissions, files locked, what-have-you...

... what is the problem?

My Transmission client is installed on Raspberry Pi 2 and when I am trying to delete files using "Trash data and remove from list" with Transmission WeB GUI , It only removes from list but do not trash data from Synology itself. Problem doesn't exist when I am trying to trash data from USB drive mounted straight to Raspberry, data is removed from disk and from Web Gui List. Maybe my problem is related more to Transmission itself than Raspberry, I am not sure, thats why I am asking for help.

I think you're correct, its a Transmission issue... but, that said, its probably working as designed. In other words it is probably designed to NOT actually delete anything. Just logically delete so that nothing is lost in the event you need to restore, or you want an archive. Much of my stuff doesn't 'acutally' delete either, particularly my web hosting stuff.

This is philosophical, and others will disagree with me, but the first rule of computer science is never delete anything. (move it, archive it, rename it, off-load it... but never delete it.
