Ethernet connection problem

Wed Jun 01, 2016 1:41 pm

Hi Friends,
My router got spoilt due to power surge. And I have to enter the login username and password manually every time I log into broadband connection. In windows I am able to do this quite easily , whereas I am a novice to Linux and raspberry pi.
I have no idea how to log into my broadband connection through Ethernet cable. Please help me.

The answer is that you do not have to enter anything. Also what is "spoilt"? It it got hit by a surge, you need to buy a new gateway.
Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Ren: Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool! Stimpy: So what'll happen? Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good.

Spoilt http://www.dictionary.com/browse/spoilt

As for the OP, when you are in Windows, how do you enter the credentials? Do you need to open a browser and then enter user/pass via webpage? What distribution do you have installed on the Pi (is it running just command line or do you have a graphical interface installed?)

Well, I am using Rasbian. In windows 8.1, I click the system tray icon of Network connections and it opens a side sliding window of connections. There under broadband connections, I enter the credentials.

Do you know if your provider is using PPPoE? Did your provider give you a modem of any type, like for a DSL connection?

No, the provider did not give me any modem. But I am sure the connection has to dial to PPPoE or something similar.
