Photostovis: an open source personal cloud for your photos

Tue May 17, 2016 9:55 am

Hello,

Several years ago I wanted a solution for storing my personal photos and videos at home. I wanted them in my home and not in the cloud for privacy reasons. At the same time I wanted something fast, that works reasonably well under all network conditions and provides a cloud-like experience: I want to access (password protected) my photos from everywhere, but I would also like to share them with a group of few, selected people.

Because I was not able to find anything that even remotely resembled what I had in mind, I started doing it myself. Now, few years later, I have something that, even if not complete, a group of friends and myself are already using.

If you are looking for a solution for your storing your personal photos and videos at home, please check a Photostovis demo:
https://photostovis.net/demo1 (running in my home). For more details and links to download (source and binaries for Raspberry Pi):
https://photostovis.org
I would be happy to provide support to anybody willing to use Photostovis.
Thanks,
Florin

Try out Nimbus (http://cloudnimbus.org)! It's a personal cloud that does what you're looking for, plus much more. A new file synchronization app has just been released for Windows.

Disclaimer: I am a developer for Nimbus. If you end up using it let me know what you think!

This is awkward... The developer of one project telling the developer of another project to drop what he's developing and use another package.

Indeed, a bit awkward :-). Not sure what in the world would make drop Photostovis and use something else, but definitely more than another project.

Bryson, I took a look at the Nimbus demo. I did not see any photos and the Nimbus description does not mention photos at all. So it does not cover what Photostovis does.
