Adapter Makes High-Pitched Whistling Sound

I just got a new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, with a generic 5V/2A adapter
Everytime I plug it in, the adapter makes a whistling sound.
I only connect an ethernet cable to it, using SSH to login.
The sound stops when I shut down the Pi using sudo halt -h
Is this a broken adapter? Or is it OK? Will it break my Pi?

I honestly don't know, but some chargers (and other things) make whistling noises. For example, my HP laptop power supply makes that kind of whistling. So does my cheap phone charger. Never had a problem with them. My monitor makes a quiet humming noise when the screen brightness is near the middle (only the middle. Weird, huh?). My stereo set makes a quiet humming noise (and vibrates) too. The chargers are the ones that make the whistling though. So, I don't know if they're meant to, but some AC adaptors/chargers do tend to make noises like that. I was once fiddling around with LEDs and had connected some to an old phone charger. The charger whistled with only a few connected, but the more I added, the quieter the whistling got. Where did you get the adapter?

I got the adapter from the reseller that I bought it from. My Asus laptop's adapter also makes a whistling sound, but not nearly as loud.
The Pi adapter's sound I can hear clearly from across the room.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. My cheap phone charger is also quite loud, although maybe not quite that loud.

Inside an adapter is a rectifier (to change the AC into DC) an oscillator (to make it back into AC) a transformer (to reduce the voltage) and another rectifier (back to DC again)
The transformer is what's whistling.
