Replace file manager by rox-filer. Possible?

I have a Raspberry Pi 3 running Jesse Raspbian (kernel version 4.4), but have little experience of Linux. I would like to replace the file manager and GUI of Jesse by ROX-filer, as I believe this more closely resembles what I am used to in RISC OS. Is this feasible? If so, could some patient soul spell out the necessary steps to be taken?

Instead of changing the file manager, why not just change the appearance? You can use the below command to gain full root access to Fm (or you can also just enable root password) as for the GUI, you can customize it, and make it look anyway you want.

Enable root password/account:
sudo passwd root
disable: sudo passwd -l root

File Manager access as root:
gksudo pcmanfm

For example:

There is a package for it (apt-cache search rox-filer).

So the first step will be

sudo apt-get install rox-filer

what do I do next?
I have successfully stretched Raspbian, and Pixel is now very handsome to look at. But I still do not know how to bind user-actions (clicks and drags) to commands. I note that if I go to
Main Menu -> Preferences -> Desktop Session Settings -> Advanced Options
there is a dialog inviting me to change the Window Manager from its current setting of

openbox-lxde

. Can it really be as simple as inserting

rox-filer

instead? There is a chilling warning:

Do NOT touch this unless you know what you are doing

. Unfortunately I do not, and up to now I have bottled out. Can anybody hold my hand or give some advice here?
