USB hub blocking/disabling ethernet?

Fri Aug 17, 2012 2:53 pm

I've just bought a powered hub for my PI, as the keyboard and mouse tended to stop and start. But I've got a problem, and after a bit of mucking about I've figured out that apparently having the powered hub plugged in stops the ethernet working for some reason. If I plug the keyboard and mouse in directly, I can actually get on the internet, although the mouse and keyboard perform inconsistently.

Is this a fault with the hub, or is there something I'm missing? If it's the hub - I got a generic one off E-Bay - would other brands of hubs be better, eg Belkin etc? Also, I noticed that the hub seems to feed power into the PI. It can actually boot using power from the PI, though it can't get as far as the GUI unless the pi mains supply in.

Try having a good search of this forum before spending any more money on another USB hub.
