Suggestions for embedded 3G Pi

Hi guys, I am contemplating using raspberry pi equipped with 3G (and a camera) for a semi-commercial application.
What are my options if I want to keep the end product as small and as embedded as possible? Using a generic USB 3G dongle will work but I don't want it sticking out of the pi.

Will it benefit me to use compute module, or will using it just end up increasing the cost and production time? Are there any embedded usb modems available if I end up making my own board?

This is my first time playing with a Raspberry Pi in this capacity. Any advice is much appreciated.

The Pi A+ and camera module might suit your needs. The 3G dongle isn't a bad idea. Nobody says it has to stick out of the USB slot. You can always desolder the USB connector on the dongle, and run some wires directly to the pads on the Pi's USB connector, and seal it up in some heatshrink to avoid shorting anything while it's in use.
