cheap mouse that actually works off the bat

Sun Apr 24, 2016 9:57 pm

hi im new to the pi community and thought as a newbie id contribute something, i got my first pi today which as we speak is running off a pc power-supply for testing purposes. i tried a number of mice and none worked they just flashed now and again. well i found that the poundshop mouse works straight away no issues so anyone in need of a mouse to get going with use the one from poundland etc.

I bought a USB mouse from a pound shop last week. It didn't work. Upon investigation (couldn't be bothered to go out of my way to take it back), I found that the mouse was fine, but the USB cable was so thin that two out of the four wires had broken.

I have microsoft basic optical mouse v2, which is really simple but it has worked on RPi models A+. B+ 2 and 3.

I have used several mice with various Pis and they all just worked. Something like:

Logitech, Microsoft, Packard Bell, Poundland, others.

I have a Cherry USB keyboard that doesn't work directly connected to A+ or Zero. That works fine on a powered hub.

Look up raspberry Pi hardware compatibility list.

Most every basic mouse I have ever used has worked fine.

Over the years I've checked out quite a few mice** - FWIW some basic info. (with links to pictures) is here:

Trev.
** Including at least one "Pounsstore" device.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
