h.265 1080p, absolutely no way?

Mon Apr 18, 2016 10:10 pm

Hi!
I'm looking for a solution to read h265 1080p films on my rpi 2.

It seem not possible directly because the quad core is not enough powerful
http://openelec.tv/forum/124-raspberry- ... berry-pi-2

But! I wonder if there is a possibility trying to stream the film?
The idea is that my PC read the h265 and send mirroring to the pi.
Airplay mirroring apparently don't work for the moment on the pi... But is there another way to do that?

I've trying to stream from my PC with VLC, that work very good with h264 but with h265 I only have sound (no image) when the PI read the stream, even if I choose to encode video in h264 in vlc before stream it. I don't understand.

So, is there any solution to see h265 video on my PI, or should I convert all of them?

Thanks

What software are your running on the pi to receive the stream ?

I myself would probably look into DLNA servers that do transcoding (Plex, UMS, miniDLNA ) and use it with Kodi, but it might not be useful in your scenario.

H.264 is a video codec. How are you handling the audio?

Oh yeh sorry, I use kodi on my rPI, but i can try something else if it can be better
(Plex, UMS, miniDLNA ) and use it with Kodi
I don't understand, Plex is an alternative to kodi, right? How can I use Plex with Kodi?
for the servers, I already try to install uPnP server on my mac, but same problem as VLC (no image)
Would UMS or miniDLNA server be better?

Original is MPEG4 AAC Audio, should I convert audio before stream?

Plex is both a server and client, but it was the Plex server I was thinking about it has uPnP/DLNA server and it also does transcoding. But I cant be sure that the transcoding works automatically with all DLNA clients and not only for the Plex client.

You can probably check in their support forum: https://forums.plex.tv/discussions/tagged/x265/p1
It looks like they have profiles for different clients/devices so you can finetune transcoding options.

I see you mention MAC and I dont have any experience with DLNA servers on MAC.
http://www.universalmediaserver.com/ is one I have used before on PC, and it has a Mac version and you can tune the options a lot.
