Firefox source?

Wed Apr 13, 2016 12:56 pm

RPi 2 - Raspbian Jessie

I installed IceWeasel a few days ago. It works well enough, but it's based on Firefox 38 which is pretty outdated and doesn't support certain add-ons. Apparently, IceWeasel is no longer being developed, and the official Firefox is now the thing to use.

I found the http://mozilla.debian.net/ site and added "deb http://mozilla.debian.net/ jessie-backports firefox-release" to my sources.list file. However, when I do an apt-get update I get "Failed to fetch http://mozilla.debian.net/dists/jessie- ... f/Packages 404 Not Found".

So, is there just not a suitable Firefox version for the Pi yet, am I using the wrong source?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Actually IceWeasel is based of Firefox 38 ESR which is different to Desktop Releases

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq

Actually Debian Firefox ESR will be in Debian Stretch, so IceWeasel will likely have another ESR Release in Jessie or renamed Firefox

So is it even possible to get an updated version of Firefox/Iceweasel on the Pi right now?

The following firefox-45 version can be installed on Raspbian:
http://ports.ubuntu.com/pool/main/f/fir ... _armhf.deb

Use gdebi for installation. On my system it shows no missing dependencies.
Web video doesn't work (lagging terribly).
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer
