Rpi 3 - Neither Wifi nor Ethernet cable is working

Hello,

My situation:
I have a RPi 3 that came with the version of NOOBS released just before the 2016-03-18 one.
I know that, therefore, Wifi can't work if I don't install the 2016-03-18 one.

My problem:
When I plug an ethernet cable between my router and the RPi3 to do the download... I don't get internet either (whereas I do have wifi from the same router)

As a result
I feel like I am a bit trapped...

One detail, though
Once (and only once), for a reason I do not know, I started getting access to internet through the ethernet cable, and did the get update etc... But when I tried the wifi, it did not work, and now if put the cable back it does not work anymore.

My question
I can see only 2 things - either I have a hardware issue somewhere, or there is something tricky with my config. Could you recommand a set of steps to, at least, look into this issue with the cable connection? I could understand a problem with Wifi, but not with the cable.

The best solution (all around) that will be of the least frustration for you (and everyone else) is to use another machine (a friends, one of yours, the public library) and get a new copy of Raspbian, or Noobs, and rebuild the SD with the latest stuff; then start over.



PS... After up get your SD card (and before you start playing around with it) back it up to your PC, whatever that happens to be. Periodically make images of your SD cards so that you can recover easily from - whatever.

I did that... and it did work. Formatting my SD card and installing everything again did the trick.
