how to display Japanese file names in OSMC and Raspbian?

I have sd cards, one with OSMC and the other with Raspbian. On either, files named in Japanese don't show correctly instead they show blocks where the fonts are supposed to be. I trying Changing the language to Japanese in Raspbian but it made menu items into blocks. I suspect the menus became Japanese but the fonts to render them correctly are missing or not setup. I prefer the menus to stay in English and just the file names to render correctly in Japanese. Anyone know how?

6 days and not a single answer. Must mean no one on this board knows about Japanese language file names.

I solved the problem myself. Change the fonts to arial.
