How to soup up the Pi 3 - your hints?

Fri Apr 08, 2016 4:47 pm

Just got my first RPi 3 this Monday and I'm loving it :)

Asking for any tips and tricks from more experienced users here:

I intend to use it as a small 24/7 home server - jabber, irc, torrrents. What can be optimized to save RAM
and minimize sdcard writes? What useless services to disable in first place?

And also, how smooth is Youtube HD in Iceweasel? I can it for a couple of times and noticed a stutter. Maybe needs
more fine tuning, because according to reviews, it ran smoothly even on Pi 2.

Thanks everybody!

Use a USB carrier with an old fashioned spinning hard drive for the root filesystem, that's not going to ever suffer the same risks as an SDCard. A hard drive will have a different set of possible failures, but you can usually see them coming by running SMART management.

I would look into Chromium with RPi-youtube for smooth youtube performance.
