SD card RO, USB drive RW

Tue Apr 05, 2016 2:55 pm

Hello.
I'm pretty sure I have readed somewhere how to mount a USB memory stick at boot, and put all the RW folders on it.
But I can't retrieve the link...
The goal is the boot on SD card, and then avoid to write on the SD (because of the risk of corruption), using the USB stick instead.
Do you know where I could find this topic ?

however if you use a flash stick it uses the same tech as the sdcard and will corrupt as fast as the sdcard.
in general if you don't just switch off then you will not have sd card corruption
or use a real HD as the root fs

Thank you.
It doesn't really matter if the usb stick is corrupted, as long as I can log with SSH or FTP and repair it if corrupted.
What I want is to avoid is to open the box to change the SD card.

Just do an internet search for something like "Boot Raspberry Pi from USB drive"... Examples:
