Gcompris - No Sound

Sat Aug 11, 2012 11:30 am

Anyone else finding it impossible to have Gcompris outputting sound on the Pi? Either through the HDMI or via the analog output?

Audio works fine otherwise, I can get mpg123 working no problems, and I can play the Gcompris .ogg files with Banshee, and the -D debug option says it's queueing the .ogg files, but nothing happens ear-wise. Even Tuxpaint has sound when started from within Gcompris. I can't get gst123 working though, and I believe that's using some common libraries, but going down that path leads to jackd and that seems far too complex for something that should work out of the box.

My boy is loving "his computer" and before I waste the whole weekend chasing this bug to complement a wasted Friday night, I'd just like to confirm that it actually can (or does) work. And also perhaps get some hints!

I'm using the latest Rasbian wheezy 2012-07-15, more or less a fresh install.

Thanks for any help,

:Travis

No sound here either on up to date arch - sound works for example in tuxpaint (brilliant by the way).
Music does work but the thing crawls along at a snails pace - no sound effects at all.
Seems like a really great prog to teach chidren basic mouse and keyboard skills as my son (3.5 yrs) needs.

Hi,
I compiled gcompris from source. But when I run it I dont get sound. jose1711 please can you tell me how you built it with the --enable-sdlmixer options? When I do a configure with --enable-sdlmixer then I get new errors that SDL package is not present. Which package do I download?

Thanks

I installed libsdl-mixer1.2 and libsdl-mixer1.2-dev and then rebuilt with --enable-sdlmixer and now sound works! :) Thank you very much jose1711_ for your help.
