plexbmc mkv conversion help

Fri Apr 01, 2016 1:22 am

i recently bought myself a raspberry pi 3b and installed openelec { amber skin with plexbmc }
i get a "cache filled before reaching required amount " and the video starts to stutter after a minute .
it happens to some 720p files and all of my 1080p files { they are usually around 10gigs each }
some of my 720p videos play flawlessly , buffering takes only seconds.
ive tried to use handbrake to lower the resolution but the movies come out lower quality { all i did was lower the width to 1280 }
ive been searching web but i cant find no up to date tutorial on how to use handbrake.

i would like to know what is the best way to convert these videos so that they will stream excellently on plexbmc ?
what are the best settings ?

You will probably get better answers posting in one of the XBMC spin-off forums.

If you have Handbrake on a Mac or Linux box, then install the CLI version (Command Line Interface), and use this script, it will re-encode the files as the same resolution but using a format that's better for decoding by the PI and others similar devices.

A Roku has somewhat similar performance & limitations in video decoding to the PI and is a very popular, so searching for how to encode for the Roku may get you some good answers. This page used to have all the information you needed, and how to do it in the Handbrake UI, not sure if it still does, but it's worth checking.

figured it out.
turns out , rasplex has only been updated for rpi 3b support.
the settings have not been updated to use the 1gb of ram.

i created a advancedsettings.xml file and placed it in rasplex.
i no longer get a cache filled before required ammount for playback error. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
