RMA for possible burnt out chip?

Mon Mar 28, 2016 12:07 am

Just curious I have owned my Pi for about 5 months now and honestly I am just getting around to work with it... I plugged in the board and things and get solid RED and GREEN lights but I also notice that there is a chip that is cracked or burnt although no burnt smell. I was curious if there was any RMA or if I just wasted $35 :-(

Can you post a picture? Where did you buy it from? There is an RMA, but it depends from where you bought it.

Bought from Fry's Electronics here in Austin. I was told it would be manufacturer because of their 30 day policy if it was covered. I will post photo tomorrow. Basically one chip has chipped from a crack. That's the best description I have at this time. Look tomorrow for follow-up though.

Thanks for your help. I am grateful.

I don't think you can if you bought it from Fry's. I know MCM and such allow you to return a year if there's been something wrong with their manufacturing, but I don't think you can do that if you bought it from Fry's. It's only $35.

Move to Europe, if anything fails in the first couple of years (as long as it's not your fault) then European legislation protects the buyer.
