Circuit Board Question

Fri Mar 25, 2016 6:42 pm

I would like to know where on this circuit board I need to solder wires to connect to the raspberry pi GPIO pins.
This circuit runs on 2 AAA batteries currently.
The circuit is completed by a button press on the circle in the middle.

I was thinking about soldering on the ground point just above the circle in the middle and also soldering on the solder point on the VDD circuit just above the PWM1 writing.

This project is for video conferencing.
I would like to have my python program detect the button press and open a webpage.
I'm also looking to interface with an IR emitter to turn on a Sharp or Samsung TV.

Any help is appreciated.

You should try it like this:

The cut is done, so the on board IC doesn't power up. ;)
P.S. For using IR, have a look at Lirc.

So,

I had a little issue with that other solder point. Will this work just as well?

That will work. But it looks very scary. I would have those pins much shorter.
Or even better, I would cut off these really long pins and expose a very little bit of copper - a few mm.
That is cut off the pins. Strip off wires.

You should connect the yellow wire to the other side of the resistor. ;)

I didn't even realise that! The green and yellow are shorted together! Shows how unobservant I am.
