Question on Pi3 USB capabilities

Sun Mar 20, 2016 8:54 pm

I have on order 40 pi3s for controlling 160 new mining units
My question is for the Pi3 I planned on connecting 4 USB data lines to 4 Mining Units
plus connecting the Pi to my network via the Ethernet port
I have heard that the Ethernet port is almost like a USB/Ethernet dongle sharing the same lane to the processor
Would there be any problems in my exact setup being 4 USBs being connected to all USB ports plus an Ethernet line
Keeping in mind Mining does not use alot of bandwidth on the Ethernet.

Most like will not have an issue as your mining units are self powered. I would suggest good power adapters for the RPis anyways.

Yes the RPi 3B like all RPi's only has one USB 2.0 BUS. The 4 USB Ports and the Ethernet Port are connected via a LAN9514 Chipset:

....also the max USB current is a total of 1200mA, so as long as you stay within those parameters you should have no issues, just make sure you have good quality PSU.
