New RPi3, Raspian load fail

Finally got my new Raspberry Pi 3 today. While waiting for it to arrive, I bought a new 16G Patriot Class 10 SD card and the other needed items. I also followed the instructions carefully in formatting the SD and loading it with Noobs & Raspbian.

Carefully following the directions, I successfully booted the new Pi today, and then clicked on Raspbian when the OS choice screen came up. It began loading nicely, but then it got stuck at 25%. I left it alone for about three hours. At that point I tried to reboot by unplugging the power & plugging it back in.

At that point it would not boot or do anything. So I tried to start over and reformat the SD. But my PC now doesn't recognize the SD. I tried another PC, same result. I tried another SD in the card reader and the PC recognized it as normal.

Now what? Is my brand new SD no good?

Just got started with my RPi3 as well and having issues right from the start with a Patriot MicroSD XC 64gb [PSF64GMCSDXC10]. I am able to get my RPi3 to boot/run using a Samsung MicroSD HC 8gb [MMB3R08GUACA-GE] without issue but when attempting to use the Patriot MicroSD card, both my RPi2 and RPi3 fail to initiate. I am now in the process of getting a different manufacturer's 64gb card and will post results upon receipt.

I received my new 64gb MicroSD made by SanDisk [SDSQUNC-064G-GN6MA] and still a no-go for NOOBS bootup. I was also able to try it on a Samsung 64gb MicroSD card [MMCTR64GUBCJ-VK] and yet again, no bootup again. Is there a firmware update that we're missing? Continuing to investigate this issue. Will post additional information as I find it.

Wow, thanks klricks! I have been racking my brain for the past few hours over this. I was able to do a manual .iso build of Windows IoT on my Samsung 64gb MicroSD card and successfully booted my RPi3 with it. Was just going to post that info when I now see your reply to the thread. I know that the 64gb card works and will now give this a go and see what happens. Again, thank you for that info and link!

I attempted to use the formatting tool that was linked in the other post but upon attempting to boot my RPi3 to NOOBS using the 64gb MicroSD made by SanDisk [SDSQUNC-064G-GN6MA], I still got a blank screen. I then pulled the MicroSD out and inserted it into my Windows machine but was unable to read it. The card reader light was blinking rapidly and I was not able to access the MicroSD at all. I pulled it out and put it in my Samsung Edge and was able to access/format it again. Wow, what a hassle this has been. So, I then remembered a tool that I used a couple years back when I was trying different android phone ROMs; HP USB disk storage format tool. I first used SDFormatter to reset the MicroSD and make sure that NOOBS was completely removed. I then used the HP USB tool to convert the exFAT filesystem to FAT32 filesystem. NOOBS was then copied back onto the card. The card was inserted back into my RPi3, powered on, and I was finally rewarded with the OS install screen.

So, I can confirm that both my Samsung and my SanDisk 64gb MicroSD cards are able to boot the RPi3 after a bit of work to get past the RPi's filesystem limitation.

I have completed the new install of OS's on my RPi3 using the SanDisk 64gb MicroSD card. I have installed Raspbian, OSMC, OpenELEC, and Windows 10 IoT Core. All are functioning without issue. Took a bit to get things sorted out but it is all about the learning!
