Raspbian Jessie clean install doesnt boot after expand FIXED

Sat Mar 12, 2016 9:32 am

Hello,

I Have the new raspberry pi 3 and a new 16gb class 10 microsd card.
I formatted the card with SDformatter and burned the latest image of Raspbian Jessie (26-02-2016) on it with Win32DiskImager.
I placed the sd card in the pi and started, everything works fine and it boots straight to the GUI.
First thing i do is open raspi-config and expand filesystem, it said it worked and i need to reboot.
This is when all goes wrong.
When rebooting some services Failed to start and eventually it sort of crashes with all kinds of EXT4 errors, and it doesnt continue to boot anymore.

I tried redoing all the steps but it shows the same outcome everytime.
I also tried to do sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade BEFORE doing the expand FS, but this doesnt work ofcourse because it runs out of space and corrupts itself and then also won't work anymore.

So i have the Raspberry Pi 3 and a Verbatim 16GB class 10 sd card.
On my pc i'm using Windows 7 and i dont have very much Linux experience.

Does anyone have any idea what to do?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you.

p.s. I'm from The Netherlands so i'm sorry if my english is not perfect.

#UPDATE

Today i went to the store and bought a brand new Samsung Evo MicroSDHC UHS-I Card 16GB class 10.
I repeated the steps and now after expanding the filesystem it reboots just fine and it's updating and upgrading as we speak.

Conclusion, if you have the same issues with expanding the filesystem or EXT4 errors while upgrading, try a brand new, good quality card and it might just work.

Thank you.

Nothing wrong with your English. It's a lot better than my French :D

Re your Verbatim card: you could try to run a test program to check if the card is working as it should.
You can use for example h2testw. It writes to every block of your card and then tries to read what is written.
If it's flaky and you bought it recently you may be able to get a replacement / refund.
