Setting up pi 3 without keyboard / monitor

Thu Mar 03, 2016 1:30 pm

I have a new Pi 3, but I don't have a spare keyboard or monitor.

Is it possible to create a bootable SD card OS (preferably ubuntu... or noobs, raspian) which I can connect to using wifi via SSH?

I would need to create the SD card on my mac. I am a beginner, but I'm guessing the process involves editing a config file which has the wifi network's name and password on the OS image, before burning the SSD?

Booting a RPI3 for the first time is no different then any other Pi, with the advantage that the 3 has an Ethernet connector.

Plug in a ethernet cable, insert your fresh imaged SD card with the latest Jessie OS and look at what IP number from DHCP it comes up. No idea e what to use on a Mac, look around for IP scanner or such.

SSH into the Pi and follow this guide for Wifi: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... ess-cli.md

Do not use the NOOBS installer.

As above stated use Full Raspbian Jessie

PiBaker is a good OSX Tool for creating SD Cards http://www.tweaking4all.com/hardware/ra ... e-pi-baker

OSX set up internet connection sharing WiFi to Ethernet...
Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot)..
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

Its a lot easier if you can first connect using a LAN cable to your network
You can then SSH in and set up your Pi that way
As others have said - use plain Raspbian image not NOOOBS
