I am in big trouble... Pi stuck in boot.

Wed Feb 24, 2016 4:02 am

My Pi is stuck in boot, it has done this before but, I have generally gotten it to work after testing.

The Pi shows all of the correct lights on the board.

The Pi is a Pi2 - received brand new on Christmas Day and has worked until I changed the OS.

1. I reinstalled the old OS.
2. It didn't work.
3. I formatted the drive.
4. I then proceeded to flash the SD with a new OS.
5. That didn't work.
6. So I reformatted it.
7. I then tried good ole' Berry Boot.
8. Then all it did was show me the rainbow color testing screen - turned off and then did it again.

Any help?

Thanks.

If possible, find more than one sdcard. Just put regular Raspian on using dd and boot from that. Does that boot?

I have tried 3 dif. SD Cards.

Also, I have tried Imaging Raspbian already.

Do you mean it kept cycling round, rebooting itself when it got to the rainbow square?
If so, it's probably power.

As always, viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151 is the place to start

Sounds like a power issue to me. I was testing out a power supply a while back, that was just barely running on the bottom end of an acceptable voltage range. My A+ ran through some of the boot sequence fine, but when it started to do some real processing, it rebooted (effectively stuck in a boot loop). I changed supplies, and it booted fine. Try a different power supply if you have one.

[Edit]
Just noticed Burngate's post. I think I need more sleep, because I completely missed it...

Not a problem. I'm used to being ignored. :)
My wife used to say I mumbled ... but how can one mumble on a keyboard?

1. It's important to have more than one card because card issues can be weird and because they aren't that uncommon. It is possible that somehow bad data is being placed on any number of sdcards, so it can help to try to use another OS, e.g. run with a card that has Jessie and with one that has Wheezy and even to write the cards from a different machine in a different manner. I had a USB thumb drive that dd didn't seem to like and the install for Ubuntu would blow up on, I ran gparted and it managed to do something different, I don't know what.

2. As several other people have stated, power is also a big deal. It's usually actually the first deal. Don't just try different power supplies, wall warts and/or USB connectors, make sure you've tried things stripped down to a bare minimum. Don't try to test with a hard drive that is being powered by the pi. Don't even include a wifi dongle. If you can, remove all dongles and just boot with a keyboard and video plugged in.

For everyone that responded! Thank you!

It was simply a power problem!

Thank you again!
