Thanks for this great tutorial. Can't wait to try it. My raspberrypi 3 is on his way.
Is there a way to install it with RetroPie? My goal is to build a dedicated Minecraft computer but i thought it would be better if at startup, we could decide between Minecraft or Retropie to play old games. Anyone tried that? Is that possible?
Thanks for your input!

@rpiMike: Thanks a lot.

I've reformatted my SD-Card and installed the new version with NOOBS 1.9.1 on my Pi 3. Now the installation has worked and starting a single player game is possible, but now some other problems came up:

1. The game lags extremely. Maybe I should try optifine ?
2. Rapid movement of the window with the mouse or switching the window to fullscreen causes the Pi to hang completely.
3. Network playing is impossible. Servers are found and displayed, but the following message is displayed:
"Failed to connect to the server. Failed to login! Invalid session (Try restarting your game)."

Turn the OpenGL driver off in 'sudo raspi-config', then reboot. You'll need to turn back on if you want to play Minecraft again.

Hi BaconCat,

I've tried to answer your PM, but my answer sticks to the outbox and I can't send it.

Thanks for your clue. How can I find out the UUID? I'm not very familiar with scriptfiles...

I have installed Optifine now. Lags less now but runs not really fluid yet. And still the Pi suddenly freezes completely from time to time in the middle of action :-(

O.K.

Network playing works again. Had to repair the run.sh-files with the right UUID and now I can access the servers again. :D

Unfortunately I still experience the lags and hangs.

Please don't forget this is running on a £30 computer that was designed for educational purposes. Its a miracle full Minecraft works at all.

Try reducing more of the Minecraft video settings, might gain a few more fps.

Yes, you are totally right. On the other hand I have watched some videos on youtube that show minecraft played for a long time without any problems like mine. At least they claim to play it on a Pi. But none of these moviemakers made a tutorial for how they managed to get that far ;)

With this tutorial you made a really good job, rpiMike. Thank you very much again for your help.

I was able to get to the main menu on 1.9.4 with (and without) optifine installed.

When I try and create new world, it hangs. Anyone have any idea what's going on:

I suspect you might be missing a jar file from your classpath list. I have got 1.9.4 working, although haven't got sound yet.

What I do is run minecraft until it crashes (java -jar Minecraft.jar). Then copy the class path list from the command window into my run.sh .

I'll check my 1.9.4 run.sh tonight.

In a terminal window run 'sudo raspi-config', this will start the config utility. Select '9 Advanced Options', then select 'AA GL Driver', then select 'Enable', then select 'Yes' to reboot. You can see this on the video tutorial at about 04:10.

Sounds like your update/upgrade of Raspbian Jessie hasn't worked.

Hey guys! Thanks a TON for this information! It's been amazing playing Minecraft on my Pi 2! I just have two questions:

1- I was playing it with OptiFine and was testing out lower resolutions for fullscreen and I got down to one of the lower ones and it stopped outputting to my monitor... so now I'm stuck. Anyone know how to fix it?

2 - is there a way to manually set OptiFine's settings without Miencraft running? Like, a text doc somewhere in the settings. If so, would someone know where? I can't find it.

Thanks and have a great one! :D
