NOOBS first boot doesnt work

Tue Feb 16, 2016 8:53 pm

I've just got my first raspberry pi and having bought a new never done much work on things i was just hoping for the best. I got a new SD card and downloaded NOOBS onto it, put it onto the card following all the instructions. I clicked on the rasberian and it downloaded all the way and once it got to 100% the whole thing froze. I couldn't move my mouse and it didn't go any further. If anyone knows what is wrong and could help me that would be fantastic, thank you very much.

forget noobs, just use Raspbian directly. How big is your card?

You can use the SHA1 checksum to see if the zip file is OK
How did you try to unzip it? Windows built-in unzip facility may have problems with it. Use e.g. 7zip.

Moin,

" I got a new SD card and downloaded NOOBS onto it"

w/o formatting the new SDC as first step?

?downloading NOOBS onto it? - didn't use copy&paste (how else) ?

Have a nice day.

I have the same problem. I tried 7zip and it wouldn't open. I tried 7zip extract and it came up with a window requiring a password.
This was using a laptop using windows 8.1.
I tried to download again and open the zip file with ZipGenius6 on my desktop pc with windows vista. Similar problem.
On both machines I paused the download to do something else, and then resumed it later. Ah Ha.
Continued on desktop. I downloaded the file again and made sure it was the only thing going on the PC.
This time the file lengths were closer to the 1.1gb noted at the beginning of the download. The others fell far short.
This time I was able to extract using ZipGenius6.
I haven't tried this file on my laptop yet using 7zip.
