Lots of how hissing/static Kodi/OSMC

Wed Feb 03, 2016 6:46 pm

Hello everyone,

I finally have my multimedia center playing, got a pair of Creative speakers hooked to my RPI 2 running the last version of Kodi inside OSMC.

Problem is, if I raise the volume in my speakers beyond 1/4 of a turn, I get a lot of hissing noise both while playing a song and when not, EVEN if kodi's volume is at its lowest.

This is an issue because I can not get a high volume without getting the hissing noise and the speakers own volume is at technically 25%.

Any ideas?

Regards
CR

max all 3 volumes in kodi just below clipping, or buy a hifi board (has a dac with better snr) or use the dac in an amp via hdmi

Or send the audio via HDMI and plug your speakers into the headphone socket on your TV.
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.

Could you tell me where those 3 volumes are?

I use a cheap USB sound card (5$). No apparent hiss or noise, and it sounds satisfying. I heard that the onboard 1/4" jack sounds terrible. It is mostly used as testing purpose rather than for enjoying music or videos.

There's an experimental fix for this currently being written by the RPF and tested by a few forum members. Initial results are looking very promising so far.

This is great news! I just installed Kodi on a Pi 2B and it sounds awful. Lots of hiss and buzz. I tried it on an old B and it was fine.
Pi are squared? No! Pi are round!
