Most efficient way to control RPi Camera from Web?

Hi all,
Although I have an IT background, I'm a begginer with RPi. I just bought the camera and want to make a project. I want to remotely control the camera from a web page (inside my home network). Eg: using my smartphone, go into a URL where I could tell RPi to take a pic, video, change settings, etc.

I can see that there could be a couple of options.. but, what would be the most efficient & responsive way to do this? Should I use the RPi-Cam-Web-Interface? build something on my own? I'm quite open to any technology, but I want something very responsive.. that could take great photos =)

Any advice?

RPi-Cam-Web-Interface would use less of yoir time, something custom in c would use less cpu time.

Thanks! I just made a quick sample with ajax =) It is not the most efficient way.. but it works ok..
