I'm confused.
The Raspberry Pi Hardware Guide mentions two different products as "the official Raspberry Pi WiFi dongle". The one is from
the Pi Hut and is the same as displayed in the Hardware guide. The other one comes from
Farnell and is the one called "Wi-Pi".
I already have two WiFi dongles from Netgear which work perfectly well on my Raspberry Pi 2 with Raspbian. Since they didn't work with Windows 10 IoT Core but the "Official Raspberry Pi WiFi dongle" is listed as a supported WiFi dongle on
Microsofts hardware compatibility list for Windows 10 IoT Core, I decided to buy this product from a local dealer in Switzerland.
As the dealer is working together with
Farnell/Element14 I've got the one called "Wi-Pi". However, if I didn't make something completely wrong, this one seems not to work with Windows 10 IoT Core. The two products are based on totally different hardware. One is based on the
BCM43143 chip set, the other on
Ralink RT5370. "Wi-Pi" also doesn't look like the one shown in the
The Raspberry Pi Hardware Guide.
I wouldn't have bought the "Wi-Pi" if I had known it will not work before. Even it's not a big loss, I feel deeply disappointed. I hope someone takes care and clarifies the situation to protect others from running into the same issues. It should really be mentioned on either one or both of the web sites mentioned above.
