PuTTY over ethernet problem.

Ok, so I am using an Ethernet to Ethernet cable, and I have downloaded PuTTY and found my Pi's IP address, but when I clicked "Open" this came up, and it wont let me type, am I supposed to reconfigure my computers address or something?

I got this thing for Christmas last year, but every time I try to boot it, it doesn't work, Please Help!!

If it doesn't work then it can't have an IP address and you can't possibly hope to connect to it with PuTTY.

I connect to all sorts of model of RPi running the Raspbian Operating System all the time, there's no magic trick.

I suggest you calmly describe what you have tried, how it seems to fail, and what assistance you need.

PS: a follow-up having read your similar query from earlier today... Can you confirm that you have actually installed an Operating System on your RPi. NOOBS is only an Installer - you can't usefully connect to it with PuTTY.

Try connect it to a monitor and get it working. Then check the IP.

Make sure the Raspberry Pi is connected properly to the network.

If nothing works try reinstalling the OS.(I don't think you would need to do this)

Don't use NOOBS. I think that might require you to have a monitor. Use Raspbian. I've gone through this very process this afternoon and it worked perfectly.

Connect the Pi to your router with an ethernet cable.

Tell us how you are finding the IP address, because I'm not sure you are doing it right.

We are using the app "Fing" like you told him to use

Good. So when you use Fing, touch the listing of the Raspberry Pi. That will take you to a new page. Then touch "Scan services" and tell us what it says.

No, if you write the Raspbian image to the card it will be overwritten anyway

This is what Fing looks like on my network:

There's loads of devices there: a few phones, a Mac, my Linux desktop, the printer, the Sky box, etc., etc.

Notice the highlighted entry though is a (fairly) new Raspbian install. You can tell it is a Pi because it's labelled as "Raspberry Pi Foundation". "vesta" is the computer name, so yours will be different.

Here is what happens when I select that and touch "Scan Services".

So are you saying that you don't have any services listed (like "SSH" in this picture)?

So I just did the raspbian thing, and a new thing popped up on the app
"22 SSH Secure Shell Login"

I also just did "Open" and it works, now it says "login as"
And I typed in raspberry,
Then it said "password" or whatever
I typed in "pi" and it said access denied

Try doing it the other way round. ID==pi, PASSWORD==raspberry

Ok thanks, but now how do I "start" it? Cause I'm seeing all these picture of this like Microsoft word type thing, but for the raspberry Pi

If by "start it" you mean a desktop you can't do that over Putty, it's just a terminal. The desktop is likely running, but you'll need to plug the Pi into a monitor or TV to see it. Or use some remote desktop software so you can see the desktop on your PC.
