(But since they are careful to refer throughout to the RaspberryPi2, I think it is unlikely - the PiZero is not a variant of the RaspberryPi2.)

yes, possibly
you will need a micro USB to USB lead
and you will need to solder a header to the PI0
the rest will probably work

Those both appear to be rather clever and useful. The one issue I would have with them (and I don't think that it can be fixed with the current Pi SoCs) is that the SSD access is limited by going over the common USB interface. That is going to *severely* impede SSD data transfer rates. Then there is the issue that the same USB bandwidth is being shared with the network connection(s).

Really...just not enough bandwidth in and out of the 2835 or 2836...
