Erratic pointer movement

Thu Jan 14, 2016 10:01 pm

Hi, I've just got my new raspberry pi 7" touchscreen display running and I'm finding that the pointer on the screen is always moving all over the pace making it almost unusable. It's running on a clean install of Jessie, all updated etc... Just wondering if this is a common thing/software bug or something else? It's powered by a 2amp psu and is powering the pi via the gpio output on the back of the screen.

I've uploaded a quick video to YouTube so everyone can see what it's doing @ https://youtu.be/q31x-yRvXQ0

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

John

It still could be power related.

Have you got a real mouse attached? Or is it just that it's picking up "random" touches?

Thanks for the responses.

No real mouse attached, just phantom touches to the screen.

After posting I power cycled the pi a couple of times and on the last time it came up with the rainbow on the top right of the screen and kept flashing on and off. Starting to think the 2amp psu isn't really putting out enough current (thanks for the link to a similar issue).

I'm going to order an official 2amp supply and see if that solves it.

Thanks for advice.

I do believe the rainbow pop up means low voltage. It's still an indication that the power pack just can't handle the load. I have a couple of these, https://www.adafruit.com/products/1995 They are 5.1 V with nice beefy wires. You may be able t find some 2.5 A power packs if you hunt around. I remember seeing some, just don't remember where. I have the Pi foundation 7 inch touch screen, but mine is powered separately from my PI. They each have their own dedicated Micro USB power cord.
