It looks like it didn't download the file correctly. You'll have to try again.

It could be a bad ibnstall of NOBS on the SD Card you received, you can always create another SD Card:

The best way to get up to speed is to read the Raspberry Pi Website and go through the help section:

If you think you have been supplied faulty item(s) take that up with the supplier.

How big did the supplier say the SD-card was ? I think 8GB is the minimum recommended size at the moment.
Is the a version number on the NOOBS-screen that can tell us how new/old it is ?

The Raspberry Pi is as per the website for Education and Learning, if you want a plug in and go PC then a Windows PC is for you..

If you read the help section and the other link I posted then you should be able to install NOOBS and get up and running.

If you have bought faulty goods then speak to the supplier, this forum is run by unpaid volunteers and we are only trying to help.......

@ waynebrook
i've just got my pi 2 B with an sd card with noobs preinstalled I plugged it all in noobs was fine started installing raspian
The NOOBS software is a simple SD set up program; it checks the card then downloads the latest selected operating system using a cable connection from the internet. That operating system is then installed by NOOBS. NOOBS is also supplied with the Raspbian operating system on the card, so you don't need the internet connection. It sounds like your card was not, technically, fully installed when you got it.
How do you meen create another SD card...?
The link to instructions for creating your own card was given in that post. See here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads
...no one knows how to fix it
There are lots of people here who know how to fix lots of things. We just need to understand how far you have got, what you were doing, and what response you got from the Pi (see below for more instructions).
I paid good money for all brand new official raspberry pi
This forum, and the Raspberry Pi Foundation, are not responsible for what you bought. There are good instructions in the website Help and Download sections for all new users to follow. It sounds like the card that you got has a problem, or the software on it is out of date. We can help you fix that, and get you going with the Pi.

Please answer these questions first...
* Where did you buy your Pi from? Was it part of a kit? (website link would be good)
* What size is the SD card? An 8GB card or more is required. 4GB is now too small, 32GB needs extra care when formatting it
* Do you have a cabled internet connection that you can plug in to the Pi?

Instructions: please follow these as closely as you can... post back the full text of any messages that you get, and which step you were doing when you got them

* Follow the instructions in the link to create a clean NOOBS install card; it will have the latest software. Make sure that you plug everything together before switching on the power. It should *just work*, but might not based on your card problems. Please be patient

Good luck

Please check if you can extract the /os/Raspbian/root.tar.xz file in your SD card.

If you can't, that means you need to replace your SD card reader. The file was corrupted during the transmission.
