How do I get the full list of OS's

Tue Jan 12, 2016 9:20 pm

When I first got my Pi, I bought the pre-installed Micro SD card. On this card, I had a variety of OS's some of which I tried, in particular Risk OS which took me back to my Acorn days.

I had a problem with this card and had to reformat it.

However, I cannot get all the OS's listed out now.

Today, I have downloaded NOOBS again but I only have Raspbian.

What do I need to download to get the full list to choose from again.

Since September 2014 NOOBS only offers the latest Raspbian version by default.

You need to have an active Internet Connection via the Ethernet Cable to be offered more choices.

You can't/don't download anything. All you need to do is boot into NOOBS (NOOBS-lite will do if you don't want to install Raspbian) and connect your RPi to a WIRED ethernet connection to a fully-working internet service.

The list of Operating Systems available for installation should be generated automatically.

See: https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs/bl ... /README.md
On first boot NOOBS will format your SD card and allow you to select which OSes you want to install from a list. This OS list is automatically generated from both locally available OSes (i.e. those contained in the /os directory on disk) or those available from our remote repository (wired network connection required).
Edit: which is what someone else said as I was typing this... Left as reinforcement.

Ok, thank you but that seems rather strange having to have a wired internet connection when the WiFi works perfectly well.

To offer WiFi in NOBS would be very difficult considering how many Wireless Chipsets are available and can be supported under Linux:

I have an Official BCM43143 WiFi Dongle and have one OS per SD Card, much easier

Now that you have both explained the wired connection requirement, I have realised that it probably explains why I had all the available OS's initially and that is because when I first bought the Pi, I used it on a wired connection, only later changing to WiFi.
Thank you.
