Windows remote desktop

Fri Jan 08, 2016 1:56 pm

I am an oldie and pi newbie - I have three queries

(1) I think I have installed Raspbian - how do I confirm this? - there is no reference to Raspbian on the desktop.

(2) I am communicating with the Pi using Windows remote desktop over a wired network - I can view videos but there is no sound is this a limitation of Windows Remote Desktop?

(3) Some links lead one to a very dubious site "powered by Indie City" this seems to have been hacked to death - is it safe?

1. cat /etc/os-release
2. rdp doesn't support sound
3. Indiecity and the PiStore has been dead for a year since January 2015

RDP does support sound. From the Wiki page:

Audio Redirection allows users to process audio on a remote desktop and have the sound redirected to their local computer.

It is possible (probable) that the Unix/Linux implementations of this Windows-centric protocol choose not to deal with audio.

Well done on finding a pedantic way to repeat the same thing I said.

I am glad that it makes you feel better to have said that.
