Arduino and rpi?

I have heard a lot of talk recently about coupling an arduino with a rpi... How would you do that??? What would you gain??? And what kind of things could you do with it???? Thanks

I'm using it much the way I would use the arduino with a normal computer. Program the arduino to do whatever you want it to do, including a serial interface. The Raspberry Pi can then communicate via USB with the arduino! The hard part (for me at least, I have minimal experience with this kind of thing!) is writing a program for the R-pi to use the arduino's serial interface!
