Travelling with pi

Sun Jan 03, 2016 12:46 pm

My raspberry Pi works fine in Canada but when I try to use it in Florida it does not work. Do I need to reprogram my SD card?

No!
but you do not supply enough information, what do you mean by "not working".

When I plug in the Pi it boots fine and I get everything I get in Canada but when I try to view a tv show it does not load the show.

We still need way information than that. What show? What OS are you using? The OS boots up fine? What do you see instead of the normal behavior?

you mean 220V/110V power plug problem?
you mean analog TV problems PAL/NTSC/SECAM
or HDMI 60Hz /50Hz/24Hz
or legal problems (video streams / content blocking by ip-region)
or what else?

The first three of those are exactly the same in Canada and Florida.

It'd be interesting to know more about OP's setup - what viewer/browser/OS combo is being used on what TV show - but on the surface of it, and this was my first reaction on seeing the post, it seems almost certain that it is a region problem.

I've never heard of this before in the context of Canada vs. USA, but it is well known on these boards that the BBC does not allow people outside the UK to watch their shows online. I assume this is something similar.

I'd start by adding

Code: Select all

hdmi_safe=1
to the bottom of /boot/config.txt.

If using NOOBS hold [SHIFT] during boot then press [1],[2],[3] or [4] to switch video modes and see if pictures get displayed. Then use the NOOBS config editor to add

Code: Select all

hdmi_safe

At least I suggested something to try rather than your usual complete NON-ANSWER.

I am sorry I didn't give you enough info.
The Pi is using Openelec .
When it boots up I get tv addons screen in Kodi.
I go to videos.
I get the Genesis up.
I get a list with Movies, TVShows, Channels, myGenesis, etc.
I go to TVShows.
I get. genders, Year, Networks, etc.
I go to Most Popular.
I get the working wheel in the bottom right for a couple of seconds then nothing.
That happens no matter which option I choose.

Do I need to reprogram the SD card to make it so it can receive US shows?

assuming, that what you try to watch is an internet iptv video stream and not an DVB-T/C/S stream via usb dongle, you don't need to change anything on your SD card / configuration.
if you are not able to open a stream, then it is blocked or the format is an other, that the addon does not can handle.

if you, what iptv progrm-/playlist you are using, i know, that some of the iptv playlist contains non-legal rips of usa pay tv broadcasts published...
possibly these videostreams are blocked in the usa, but are available outside of usa.

are all videostreams affected?
can you tell some examples precisely (what is tv show working in canada but not in usa)?

use a legal iptv playlist without any non-legal pay tv broadcasts in it!

Genesis is a very dodgy add-on made for watching pirated streams from illegal sources, so it's more than likely that they are blocked by the US network service provider.

It's on the banned add-ons list for the main Kodi forum due to its sources.
