Ubuntu 15.10 ?

Fri Dec 18, 2015 4:09 pm

Hi,
I think that when I bought the pi2, noobs also displayed an ubuntu dist in its os list.
If I remember this correctly -- why has it been taken off?

and a raspbian specific question: the preinstalled package manager as well as synaptic show all optional or dependent packages for any software listed. Getting relevant info by browsing this list is hard for linux-rookies who want to find a software that can do what they need but don't know the name. Any other managers available, like the one in ubuntu, e.g.? Or a document listing all the software available in the symbian repositories?
thx from vienna

use the search function. In synaptic you can search in name and/or descriptions.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

ok, somehow I never tried to search for a keyword, because I took for granted the database is not keyword indexed. Will try. What results would a synaptic search return when I ask e.g."video cutting" (which I will not try on the raspbi ;) )? false positives, missed prog.? .
I'd still prefer an easy-to-use manager like in Mint or Ubuntu (and probably other dists). Generally I think finding the software should not take much time from what a user wants to do with it.

The Ubuntu software application is a real pain to use ... I still prefer synaptic.

I just wrote the ubuntu 5.10 release for Raspberry 2 to an SD and will have a look at that.

BUT: *please*, y'all, don't let this keep you from answering the original question, I still would like to read your hints and opinions!
