Do I have a dead Pi Zero? NO! (solved)

Sat Dec 05, 2015 5:48 pm

Just received my mini-HDMI and micro-USB converters to go with the Pi Zero I picked up last week, but the thing appears to be dead. This is with a known working power supply and micro-SD card from my old Pi1 with OpenELEC installed on it. Nothing comes up on the TV and no LEDs light up or anything.

Silly question, but I take it I should at least see the power LED light up? If it's dead, how would I go about trying to get a replacement, given that it was a MagPi cover freebie bought from WH Smiths.

There is no "power led" on a Pi Zero (only a green activity led). Which O.S. were you trying to run? (The latest Raspbian Jessie download worked fine for me)
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

The Pi Zero doesn't have a power LED, just the ACT LED.

It will not work with the image you are trying to use. You need to use an up to date OS, like the latest Jessie. It will not work with older versions of OS's.

Try update/upgrade your SD card on your older raspberry pi B.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Too old, upgrade firmware as Laurens suggests.

I had, I think, 8 LED flashes with an outdated, not booting, uSD card. Do you see that?

Thanks, it's working now that I've installed a new image on the SD card.

But no, there were no LEDs flashing or anything on screen until I re-flashed the card.
