You can or you can't 'add input on' ? This needs further explanation. Is anything shown on the display or not. It could be that the new image is attempting to boot to XWINDOWS, but the OS isn't configured to direct output to the display. So if this is possibly the case, you could SSH in to the Pi, run raspi-config and choose Boot to Console in the Boot Options menu.
