Test Card Generator

Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:21 pm

Hi,

For amateur radio ATV (Amateur television) I want to create a test card generator with the raspberrypi.
It should not be a problem to do that with a linux distri and an high resolution png of the testcard.
like this: http://www.napierjames.com/index_files/image002.png

But I want to integrate the raspberry in my selfbuild ATV transmitter, by using the composite video. And after powering that on the test card should be available after 2-3 seconds.

Is it should be possible to skip all the operating system stuff and integrate that in a native c++ programm? Or is it nearly impossible to controll the graphic unit without linux?

there is already a Linux-free "bare metal" example that can display bitmap images, search for DexOS, for example:
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=7004
http://www.dex-os.com/DexBasic/DexBasic.htm
http://www.dex-os.com/DexBasic/Lesson1.htm <- example includes loading a BMP bitmap image as a background screen, + text

I think the image resolution of the DexOS platform is currently fixed at 800x600 pixels, but I'm not sure what the true bandwidth of the R-Pi's analog video output is.

That is really nice! How long is the booting time?

Here my version of the ATV test pattern generator : http://tinyurl.com/asue3xu using Python as the programming language.
