Simple case idea: VHS-C cassette case as RasPi case

Looking around in my home-office I had a simple idea, because I found some old VHS-C cassettes laying around. So why not putting the RasPi in an VHS-C cassette case?

The VHS-C cassette case is just a little bit larger then the RasPi board, so it fits perfectly. I only had to make some cut-outs for the plugs.

Half an hour later my case was complete. For better hold, I put a piece of antistatic mat under the board.

Looks lovely! Can you show us a picture of the inside of it, and how you fitted it in there? I'm just wondering what happens when you 'open' it!

Opening is just a little problem with this "prototype" The problem is the overstanding USB-Port (see following pics). You can open the cover a bit, so you can pull out the board diagonal.

In my next attempt I will build it upside down in the cassette case (see last pic). But then the deeper installed ethernet port could be a problem, when you plug in a LAN cable.

Has someone an idea how to resolve this problem? For now I can live with this limitation. The main thing for me is, the board is protected and it looks cool

It does look very cool. I was looking at server backup tape box the other day thinking "Hmmmm...".

Yes! I had a look at the heap of unloved DAT, DLT, LTO cases under my desk a few days ago...
One of them seemed to be the right size (I used my ID badge as a gauge!).
...except that they're polytheney - not as smart as acrylic.

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to support the corners in some sort of notched pillars.

Only mine is way bigger.... but then again mine has built in WiFi, Bluetooth, extra storage space, USB hub and some proper power management Plenty more space for future additions too!

I can't imagine there's many people over 25 who _haven't_ got a spare VHS lying about somewhere!

I was going to post a topic on how to make a RPi case out of a VHS-C case, but I see it has already been done. Mine looks a little different because it is a different kind of case. However, it is very easy to open up because of the different design. Because of the way the case closes around the connectors, the RPi can't move around hardly at all, so it is a pretty tight fit when the case is closed, but yet easy to remove, even with the SD card still inserted.
