Touch Screen Not working

Sat Oct 10, 2015 12:52 pm

Recently purchased the Raspberry PI 7" Screen and assembled it as instructed. Installed and updated raspbian as instructed.

I originally had an issue where the large ribbon cable was not firmly installed on the driver board, but that was corrected. I got the Screen working within a day or so, but the touch screen does not. I have reconnected, disassymbled, assembled, jumped up and down on one foot.

Any one having the same issue or found a work around?
Is there any thing in cli i can do in linux to check the status for the DPI or the touch?

I've heard rumors that the display wont work on some model for some issue.

With that in mind it would be useful if you stated which model Pi you are using..............

Basic debugging steps for the touchscreen. Check it shows up in dmesg:

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep -i FT5406
Check it shows up as an input device:

Code: Select all

cat /proc/bus/input/devices | grep FT5406 -B 1 -A 8

Thanks for the info. The first script returned a blank prompt, so I ran the second one.
The only thing the Pi sees is the Logitech mouse and key board. nothing else. Also, I have to run the script without the "grep" command to see the info since the device was not found.

Do you think I should get an exchange from the Swag store.

Just chiming in again to mention that most of the time a non-functional touchscreen is just down to a bad FPC connection from what I've observed.

I've tested something like 10 displays returned as faulty, and every single one of them was fine. These were after walking through all the normal update steps, so I'm inclined to believe the FPC connectors - which no end-user should ever have to use anyway - are at fault. ( well, not faulty, just awkward )

There's no use complaining and not doing anything about it, though, so I've whipped up a guide on our forums: http://forums.pimoroni.com/t/raspberry- ... embly/1132

Hi,
I've got the same problem. The Display is fine, but the touch is not working.

@ gadgetoid:
I knwo what you mean!
But in my case, all cable are correct connected. I am educated in electronics ;) but a Beginner in Raspberry Pi things.
It look that the touch driver (rpi-ft5406) is missing.

Re: Touch Screen Not working

Fri Oct 23, 2015 11:04 pm

After 18 hours of tedious research and experiments I have recovered evidence.
I have changed the Debian Image!

from:

NOT WORKING!!!

My first OS Installation was:
Raspbian Wheezy
Based on Debian Wheezy
Version: May 2015
Release date: 2015-05-05
Kernel version: 3.18
https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspb ... wheezy.zip
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

to:

WORKING !!!
NOOBS
Offline and network install
Version: 1.4.2
Release date: 2015-09-24
https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/NOOBS_latest
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/noobs/

Both Linux version are the same:
[email protected] ~ $ uname -a
Linux raspberrypi 4.1.7-v7+

I can't belive it. I installed NOOB Raspian system, without update, without upgrade or other things and the touch works.
Thanks for steal my time!

Not exactly the same. You can see from the u ame output that you are running a 4.1 kernel version while wheezy is 3.8 in the image, so I expect that you are using Jessie which worked.

Totally off-topic as it's not the same display and this thread is almost a year old. I see you have now started your own new thread.
Thankyou.

What do I do if I get it working and then after a couple of days I get a black screen when I try to boot it again? I've tried hooking it up to a monitor and then it works and I update and upgrade in the terminal, however it still doesn't work. Then if I reimage the SD card it works fine. I don't like doing with my screen because then it makes me have to spend time trying to get all the packages I want reinstalled. I have a raspberry pi 7" touchscreen and I've been using a raspberry pi B+ 1 and a raspberry pi 2. So if you can tell me how to get it to work and not have to redo everything every time that would be great.

1. Check the ribbon cable between the RPi and the display blue side to the outside edge of the RPi, blue side down on the display.
2. Pull off the blue and yellow jumpers, they aren't needed with A+, B+, 2B, 2+ or 3B.
3. Make sure the display has power (black jumper on pin#6, red jumper on pin#2 or pin#4 on your RPi)

I have a touch screen too and it was working just fine with my RPi3. Yesterday i formatted the SD Card with the new release of NOOBS and... Touch screen not working, WiFi not working (does not recognize my password, only works with a free access), the OS list can't be displayed... Is this happening with anyone else or just me?
How can i fix it?
(without going back to NOOBS 1.9)

Thanx

Try again. It looks like you've messed up getting NOOBS onto the (reformatted) SDCard, because it works for everyone else.
