How to make a root fs read only?

Sat Oct 10, 2015 1:17 am

Hi,

I setup a freerdp app for raspberry pi using archlinuxarm. Current root file system is in read write mode. User may power off the device without proper shutdown. I am worry the filesystem might get corrupted easily. Is there a way to make the root file system read only but still works as usual? Logs and history is not imporant. But date and time shall sync with ntp server.

I am sure this question has been answered before in the forums, and not sure what the conclusion was.

You likely could change it, although I am not sure how, but the question in my mind is whether the applications your users would need to run would be able to function properly without write access. Even a back button in a browser depends on some sort of history.

And there are settings which would need to be saved before that change, or some things would break. I think that if it would even run, it very much would depend on what the Pi was getting used for and whether the utilities and applications could function without write access.
