How to Identify Kernel Build Number?

Wed Oct 07, 2015 11:12 pm

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi:~$ uname -a
Linux raspberrypi 4.1.7+ #817 PREEMPT Sat Sep 19 15:25:36 BST 2015 armv6l GNU/Linux
The above output is from my RPi. Does the "#817" refer to the kernel's build number? If not, how do I identify it?

Yes.

Current is 4.1.10+ (A/B/B+/A+) or 4.1.10-v7+ (2B) and build #820.

Thank you, Dougie. It was one of your recent posts in another thread (viewtopic.php?f=91&t=122309) that prompted my question about the kernel build number. You provided useful information about when a reboot should be done.
